Bio
A long-time team doctor for the athletic program, C.F. Berkstresser’s first contact with the college came when he was recruited by coach John Griffith to run track at the Morningside Academy in 1909. Berkstresser operated a medical practice in the Peters Park section of Morningside, and simultaneously opened the Morningside College Health Office in 1936 in the Alumni Gym.
The health office later moved to Lewis Hall, and The Commons. He was well known on campus for his gruff manner, practical jokes, and care for students. Berkstresser was later awarded an honorary doctorate, and alumni award from Morningside.
