Bio
A two-time All-NCC performer, Bishop Heelan Catholic product Tom Betz patrolled the center position for Morningside basketball during his 1985-89 career. Betz scored 1,101 points during a 109-game career, ranking seventh on the all-time scoring list at the time of his graduation. As a senior, Betz led the squad in scoring (15.5), rebounding (9.8), and field goal percentage (58.8). He grabbed 735 rebounds in his career, and charted an estimated 120 slam dunks. Betz returned to Heelan as head boys basketball coach, and compiled a 264-83 overall record.
His Crusader teams captured three consecutive state championships (2008-10), and were runner-up in 2002, and 2007. Betz has served his alma mater on the National Alumni Board, and M-Club Hall of Fame committees.
In 2017, he was inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. Today, Betz serves as the vice president of advancement at Bishop Heelan.
