Bio

A silky-smooth forward hailing from Hawarden, Iowa, Steve Brandsma played a significant role in Morningside’s most decorated two-year basketball run in school history. He led the team to a 26-6 record in 1983, and a 22-9 mark in 1984 with NCAA Division II appearances in the Final Four, and Elite Eight, respectively. A two-time All-North Central Conference performer, Brandsma scored 1,362 points in 108 games during his 1980-84 stint at Morningside.

He helped the 1983 squad capture a North Central Conference championship, the first in 32 years, and only fifth in school history, by averaging 13.9 points per game. A year later, Brandsma hit at a 15.3 per game clip as the Maroons finished second in the NCC, and captured an NCAA regional by defeating Northern Michigan, and Wayne State (MI) before falling to Central Missouri in the quarterfinals.

Brandsma shared the 1984 George Clarkson Award with Iowa’s Steve Carfino, presented annually to the state’s outstanding senior college basketball player.
