Bio

Named a Little All-American halfback in 1949, Connie Callahan was Morningside’s first 1,000-yard rusher by gaining 1,284 yards during his senior season, along with 16 touchdowns. He led the nation (all divisions) in total offense with 2,006 yards, including 724 yards passing from 55 completions, and two touchdowns. Callahan was the only Morningside gridder to earn All-North Central Conference honors three times, and was cited as the league’s Most Valuable Player in 1949.

Playing under NFL coaching legend George Allen, Callahan led Morningside to a 7-3-1 record in 1949, at the time the second highest single season victory total in school history. His single season, and career rushing records stood for 22 years until being surpassed by Dave Bigler in 1971.
