Bio

Francis Jones played basketball at Morningside, and later coached high school teams throughout northwest Iowa over a long, and impactful career. Together with teammate Bob Held, Jones led Morningside to an 11-5 overall record, and 6-3 in North Central Conference for the 1941-42 season, runner-up in league play. He was named All-North Central Conference. After Morningside, Jones served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and participated in the battle of Iwo Jima, and the occupation of Japan.

Jones coached, and taught at Sioux Center, Webster City, LeMars, and Newell, and compiled a career record of 374-173, taking five teams into state tournament play. He was inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1977.
