Bio

A standout pitcher, and first baseman, 1951 graduate Karl Kletschke is believed to be the first Morningside player to earn a baseball scholarship. Kletschke led the Morningside squad in pitching victories, batting average, and home runs in each of his four seasons. He compiled a 4-2 record on the mound as a senior, and batted.383 with seven home runs, leading the team to a 10-4 record. Kletschke played baseball professionally for the Chicago Cubs farm team in Janesville, Ill.,, and semi-pro baseball in leagues in Iowa, and Nebraska.

He purchased the former Mickelson’s Clothing Store, and rebranded the store as Karlton’s Clothiers and Tailors, which he operated in Sioux City for many years.
