Bio

The only Morningside athlete to score a touchdown in a regular-season NFL contest, Gayle Knief played three seasons in the National Football League. The wide receiver from Denison, Iowa, signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent, and spent two seasons on the taxi squad. In 1970, he was traded to the Boston Patriots, and appeared in three games. He caught three passes for 39 yards, including a 22-yard TD reception against the Miami Dolphins.

At Morningside, Knief was a standout receiver, earning two-time All-North Central Conference honors, and leading the league in receptions with 35 catches for 376 yards in 1966 league action.
