Bio

Sheldon, Iowa, native A.G. Kruger is the first Morningside athlete to represent the United States in the Olympics, qualifying for the hammer throw in 2004, 2008, and 2012. Kruger established himself as an elite competitor in the weight events during his collegiate days at Morningside, in the North Central Conference, and the NCAA Division II ranks. He was a Division II national outdoor champion in 2001 in the Hammer Throw, and also placed sixth in the discus while being named the Division II National Outdoor Male Track, and Field Athlete of the Year. He also finished second in the 2001 indoor weight throw event, and fourth in the 2000 national meet in the Hammer Throw. Kruger captured four NCC titles over his career.

The three-time Olympian set national records in the 35-pound weight throw, and the 56-pound ultra weight throw. He competed in five world championships, and qualified 15 times for US National Championships. Kruger spent 13 years as a training instructor, head coach, and teacher at Ashland University, and five seasons as assistant track coach at the University of South Dakota.
