Bio

Sioux City native Pat Murphy, a 1971 graduate, played football, baseball, and track for Morningside after a standout career at East High. Pressed into the starting lineup at quarterback with an injury to Mike Junck, Murphy responded with a stellar 1970 season, leading the North Central Conference in passing by completing 74-158 tosses for 1,041 yards, and ten touchdowns. Murphy threw for 392 yards against South Dakota State, a single-game school record that stood for many years. He also led the team to a 72-10 shellacking of Missouri Western by tossing five touchdown passes, and directing an offense that racked up 41 first downs. In his final game as a Maroon gridder, he guided Morningside to a 28-27 conquest of South Dakota.
