Bio
A native of Akron, Iowa, Chuck Obye graduated from Morningside in 1946. Like many young men, and women of that era, Obye’s educational pursuits were delayed due to World War II., where he served as a waist gunner on a B-17 bomber crew. Obye was named head men’s basketball coach at Wayne State (NE) in 1949, and served eight seasons for the Wildcats. In 1957, Obye returned to his alma mater as men’s basketball coach, and served until 1973. Later he became the Coordinator of Adult Education for Western Iowa Tech Community College. He competed in the Senior Olympics for 20 years at the state, and national levels, excelling in high jump, long jump, and javelin.
