Bio
A tremendous all-around athlete, Gary Pettit is among a select group of Maroon performers to earn first-team All-North Central Conference honors in two sports. Pettit led the NCC football ranks in receiving in 1968 with 52 catches for 569 yards, and six touchdowns en route to the all-league honor. For the 1968 season, Pettit grabbed 68 aerials for 743 yards. He set a school record that year that still stands today by gathering in 16 receptions for 171 yards in a contest against South Dakota.
Pettit also earned All-NCC honors in basketball for the 1967-68 season by averaging 15.8 points per game. During a three-year basketball career, Pettit scored 836 points in 66 games for a career scoring average of 12.7 points per game. A member of the track team, Pettit also holds a school record by charting a 15 feet-6 1/4-inch effort in the pole vault in 1968, earning NAIA All-American honors.
