Bio

A Sioux City native and East High graduate, Eldred “Salty” Saltwell compiled a more than five-decade affiliation with the Chicago Cubs major league baseball team. Saltwell’s entrance into professional baseball began with his hometown Sioux City Soos, where from 1947-54 he worked as usher, trainer, play-by-play announcer, and business manager. In 1954, he was named president of the Western League Class A minor league, and later worked for Cubs’ farm teams in Los Angeles, Fort Worth, and Des Moines. Saltwell moved to Chicago to become business manager with the Cubs in 1958, and in 1972 he was promoted to Vice President. He served one season as general manager.

While at Morningside, Saltwell started the sports public relations department, now the sports information office.
