Bio
One of the best all-around athletes to ever wear the Maroon and White, Todd Smith excelled in football, and track for four seasons, and played one season of basketball. Smith was a standout on both sides of the ball for Morningside, rotating between defensive back, and flanker, and notching big numbers in each. He had a spectacular 1988 season when he led the NCAA Division II ranks in receiving with 86 catches for 1,006 yards, and eight touchdowns en route to All-North Central Conference honors, and nominee for the Harlon Hill Award.
He later had a free agent tryout with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Smith was equally exceptional as a track athlete, capturing four North Central Conference individual events, and two relays, and qualifying for the national meet in the 55-meter, and 400 intermediate hurdles, and the 100-yard dash. He was a member of Morningside’s 4x100 relay that finished fourth nationally in 1988.
