Bio

Paul Splittorff was recruited to Morningside by legendary baseball coach Don Protexter out of Arlington Heights, Ill. At Morningside, Splittorff played basketball and baseball for the Maroons, where he was a two-time All-North Central Conference pitcher and averaged 14.9 points per game in basketball. He was selected in the 25th round of the 1968 Major League Baseball draft by the Kansas City Royals. Splittorff spent his entire major league career with the Royals, compiling a 166-143 overall pitching record over 15 seasons (1970-1984), a tenure noted for his consistency and longevity.

After retirement, Splittorff served as a television announcer for the Royals baseball network and also worked as a color commentator for Big 8 and Big 12 basketball games. He was inducted into the Royals Hall of Fame in 1987 and is a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame. Splittorff passed away from cancer in 2011.
