Bio
Dennis Turnure, a 1968 graduate, came to Morningside as a versatile two-sport athlete, and competed in football, and baseball. He led the 1965 Maroon football squad in rushing with 420 yards before concentrating on baseball, where he was a standout for coach Don Protexter’s squad. Turnure was a three-time All-North Central Conference selection playing both the infield, and outfield. In 1966, he batted.363 with 17 RBIs, and hit.340, and.326 respectively over the next two seasons. Turnure was signed by the Montreal Expos but an injury curtailed his major league baseball prospects.
He served several years as a math teacher, and basketball, and baseball coach at Adair-Casey, IA. Turnure played high school football for the undefeated Atlantic, Iowa squad quarterbacked by former Iowa Hawkeye, and Kansas City Chiefs star Ed Podolak.
