Bio

A name synonymous with Sioux City athletics, Rich Vanderloo was a fixture in Siouxland sporting circles for decades. Following a superlative athletic career at Morningside, Vanderloo spent two seasons coaching in Wisconsin, two at Cherokee, Iowa, and then began a 31-year association with Sioux City East. As a Black Raider, he served 20 years as athletic director, and 13 years as head boys basketball coach. He was a central figure in the revival of the Sioux City Relays, and is a member of the organization’s Hall of Fame.

Vanderloo was part of the Iowa High School Basketball Coaches Association, and a member of the Iowa Athletic Directors Hall of Fame. At Morningside, the 1965 graduate was a rare All-North Central Conference performer in two sports, being cited in baseball for three consecutive seasons (1963-65), and as a basketball guard in 1965.

Vanderloo also played Minor League Baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals farm team.
