Bio

Dick Wiedenfeld is one of only three Morningside basketball players to be named All-North Central Conference three times (Bob Held, and Brad Barron are the others) during the school’s 78-year association with the NCC. Wiedenfeld scored 836 points in 57 games over his career (1947-51), and was the school’s all-time leading scorer at the time of his graduation. As a senior, Wiedenfeld led Morningside to an 18-7 record, and championship in the NCC with a 9-3 mark. He averaged 18.6 points per game that year, and led the NCC in field goal percentage.

U.S. Army veteran Wiedenfeld served in a field artillery unit and saw combat in Italy. He coached for 29 seasons at Fort Dodge St. Edmund, Truesdale, Pocahontas Catholic, and Carroll-Kuemper, compiling an overall record of 380-211. In 1996, Wiedenfeld was inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.
