Bio
The 1967-68 Morningside wrestling squad recorded one of the most memorable seasons in school history. Under the leadership of coach Arnie Brandt, the squad notched a perfect 11-0 dual season record, captured the Upper Iowa Invitational, and Morningside Quadrangular, finished third in the North Central Conference, and was well represented at national meets. Dennis Christenson was selected as the team’s most valuable wrestler by charting a 22-4-1 overall record, capped off with a runner-up finish at 177 pounds in the NAIA National Tournament. Pete Middleton repeated as the NCC’s 191-pound champion, and finished fourth at the NAIA National meet.
Two other Maroons, Bill Simpson, and Al Baxter finished sixth in the NCAA national meet. Other squad members included Duane Aaland, Don Ask, Bob Bason, Dave Hartle, Bruce Holmgren, Jay Johnson, Steve Johnson, Lynn Peterson, Rex Phillips, Dale Putrah, Mike Ribbey, Blaine Schenck, and Jeff Streeby.
