Cheer and Dance sweep home duals
SIOUX CITY, IOWA – There was a chill in the air outside, but a certain energy in Allee Gym Wednesday, Feb. 10, as Morningside Cheer and Dance hosted the Morningside Duals, squaring off with Grand View University, and hosting a neutral site cheer and dance competition for Grand View and Midland University. The Mustangs took the sweep of the night, besting the Vikings 73.15-64.6 in Cheer, and 85.6-85.45 in dance.
Morningside's cheer team, hoping to rebound from a performance that was below expectations at Mount Marty, responded by posting it's highest score of the year.
Cheer coach Dakota Van Hauen, looking much more relaxed following the routine, reflected, "We put in some upgrades to our elite stunt section, and the team handled those well tonight. They performed the routine amazingly."
Dance, on the other hand, continued a string of strong performances, earning its second-best score of the season, displaying a performance that's been getting stronger and stronger as the weeks pass.
"We've cleaned some things up and made some changes, and I think for the most part it went really well," analyzed dance coach Alisha Steckler. She continued, "We were happy with our score, but want to continue to increase it. We need to stay focused and continue doing what we have been to be successful."
"Things are starting to click, but there's a lot more work to do," said Van Hauen of his squad.
Morningside's cheer and dance teams compete in the Dordt University Invitational on Saturday in Sioux Center. Live stream links can be found at msidemustangs.com. Dordt is not allowing visiting fans to attend.
