Cheer places third at GPAC Championships
CRETE, NEB. – Morningside Cheer took its turn on the floor, competing in the 2021 GPAC Championship at Doane University. The event also served as the qualifier for the NAIA national championship. The Mustangs placed third in the event, trailing Midland and Hastings in the standings.
Morningside's preliminary round score of 71.73 placed the Mustangs firmly in third place headed into the finals. 25 percent of the preliminary round score would count toward the Mustangs' total for the day.
In the final round, The Mustangs recorded a score of 73.58, wrapping up the day with a total score of 73.12.
"I couldn't be prouder of how the team did today. The vibe was amazing!" reflected head coach Dakota Van Hauen. "I hope we do get selected by the committee to get an at-large berth. All these athletes deserve it."
He continued, "Regardless of the outcome, our year was fantastic. Through the ups and downs, this team has grown in maturity, responsibility, and work ethic. They have shown what kind of athletes we have in the Morningside Cheer program, and we will continue to grow and push for GPAC titles and national championship berths."
Morningside will find out on Sunday when the NAIA announces the at-large berths if its season continues at the NAIA national championship, March 12-13 in Davenport, Iowa.
