SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The Mustangs welcomed Grand View University to Allee Gym yesterday, continuing their push to be ready for the team's national championship qualifier and Great Plains Athletic Conference championships on February 25 and 26. Morningside came up short in the dual, losing to Grand View 73.95-67.6, but saw the opportunity to continue to grow.
"We've got some work to do," shrugged coach Dakota Van Hauen. "We're getting better, and the athletes are doing everything asked of them. Things happen sometimes, and unfortunately it is what it is. We are going to revamp our routine and see if that is able to better satisfy the judging criteria."
Van Hauen's team saw some of the gears not quite mesh, but they're ready to continue to grow from each opportunity.
"It's hard sometimes because cheerleading is a subjective sport, so something that the crowd or myself may enjoy, may not be received in the same way by the judges."
Morningside's cheer team looks to move forward in its next competition, the Dordt University invitational on February 19 in Sioux Center.
