Summer season ends on high note
Morningside College's regional collegiate League of Legends squad wrapped up their campaign Saturday, Aug. 10.
Head coach Dean Stevens' team wound up second in the loop's tournament. Loyola University of Chicago's Luc Ramblers came away as champions.
"We made them fight for every inch of ground," Stevens said of the group's best-of-three final battle. Nate Fuller, who played a key role for the Maroon winding up third in the regular season, totaled four kills in the opening match-up 29-9 kills' defeat to go along with a 58,000-40,000 collected gold deficit. The Ramblers continued their strong play in the second meeting with a 32-9 kills advantage and also topped gold collection 65,000-49,000, but Stevens pointed out the Mustangs improved during the series.
Morningside advanced to the final with a quarterfinal round forfeit win and disposing of Insert Team Name Here at the 30:33 mark in the semifinals. Tim Sibbel starred individually with several key dragon kills and rift heralds while controlling the jungle, according to Stevens. "We confounded the opposition using the unconventional pick of Naas on the bottom lane," the head coach noted. The final kills count was 17-9 for Mside with the Mustangs leading 55,000-42,000 in gold collection.
