Morningside sweeps GPAC football weekly awards
Wide receiver Drew Sellon was named Offensive Player of the Week, Jack Brickhouse earned Defensive Player of the Week, and Juven Hudson was selected Special Teams Player of the Week.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Morningside football team swept all three Great Plains Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards following its 55-37 win over Midland on Saturday at Elwood Olsen Stadium.
Wide receiver Drew Sellon was named Offensive Player of the Week, Jack Brickhouse earned Defensive Player of the Week, and Juven Hudson was selected Special Teams Player of the Week.
Sellon caught 10 passes from quarterback Zack Chevalier for 130 yards and three touchdowns. His longest reception, a 57-yarder in the first quarter, was the Mustangs' first score of the game. He is averaging 146 yards per game through four contests, ranking third in the NAIA.
"Drew just puts a lot of pressure on teams and his ability to get open and he showed that again," head coach Steve Ryan said.
Late in the third quarter, Brickhouse picked off a pass and returned it 36 yards, setting up Morningside's next scoring drive to widen the lead. He also finished with nine tackles.
"Jack had a great summer, and worked hard, and when you work hard in the summer, that just elevates your confidence," Ryan said. "He's got the ability to be an outstanding football player."
Hudson, a redshirt freshman from Watertown, South Dakota, returned four kickoffs for 106 yards, including a 39-yard return that led to a touchdown drive. He also ran for a 69-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
"Juven is incredibly explosive, and in terms of having the ball in his hands, he can be very electric," Ryan said.
Hudson is averaging 25.4 yards per return on eight attempts this season.
The fourth-ranked Mustangs are at Hastings this Saturday at 1 p.m.
