OLATHE, Kan. — Morningside men's basketball couldn't hold off a second-half surge Friday night, falling 78-71 on the road.
The Mustangs led 37-33 at halftime and shot 51 percent from the field overall but struggled at the free-throw line, connecting on just 8 of 15 attempts. Despite the loss, No. 19 Morningside outscored its opponent 56-34 in the paint and posted a 32-29 edge on the boards.
Tyson Odvody led the Mustangs with 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting and added four rebounds. Kaden Van Regenmorter scored 13 points and dished out five assists, while Alex Wilcoxson added 11 points, five assists and two steals. Daniel Brocaille and Fitzy Grant each finished with 10 points, with Grant also pulling down eight rebounds.
Morningside shot an efficient 52 percent in the second half but couldn't overcome a late run that erased its halftime lead. The Mustangs tallied 21 assists on 29 field goals and committed 13 turnovers in the contest.
