Dreckman drains layup to help Mustangs nab road win

CRETE, Neb. — The Morningside men's basketball got what it wanted at the end of a gritty 79-78 win over Doane on Saturday.

"I'm happy that he found a way to finish," said head coach Trent MIller on the KMNS-AM postgame show. "Kaden threw a perfect pass to him, hit him right in the numbers, and Caleb's job was to finish."
Dreckman scored 13 points, but also ended up with a career-high nine assists.
Before that game-clinching shot, Fitzy Grant scored the previous five points, including a clutch 3-pointer from the right wing with 39 seconds left. He ended up with 11 points.
"Fitzy is in the gym every day putting up shots," Miller said. "He doesn't overthink it. He catches it and shoots it. That was the biggest make of his career."
Morningside had to catch up to Doane to have the chance to win it at the end. The Mustangs had to go on a 17-2 run that lasted over six minutes during the second half to not only erase a big deficit, but also take the lead. Daniel Brocaille scored 11 of his 19 total points during that stretch. Doane led 41-38 at the half.
The Mustangs shot 52 percent, and earned 42 points in the paint. They also connected on seven 3-pointers, including three from Alex Wilcoxson, who had 17 points and nine rebounds.
Tyson Odvody made all six of his shot attempts for a 12-point game.
Morningside will aim to make it 13 GPAC wins on Wednesday against Waldorf in Forest City, Iowa.
