SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Before turning its full attention to the NAIA national tournament, the Morningside men's basketball team received several honors Wednesday following its championship season.
The Mustangs earned six spots on the Great Plains Athletic Conference All-Conference teams. Fitzy Grant was named GPAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Kaden Van Regenmorter was selected Freshman of the Year, and Trent Miller '14 was named Coach of the Year.
Miller guided the Mustangs to the 2025-26 GPAC regular-season championship. Morningside finished 18-2 in conference play and won 13 of its 14 home games. The Mustangs also produced the NAIA's 11th-highest scoring offense at 89.2 points per game and surpassed the 100-point mark 10 times, including a stretch of four straight games.
"We all win as a unit," Miller said in a recent Mustang Standard feature. "I have great people around me. It makes this job very enjoyable to work alongside people like the ones I get to. I get the opportunity to coach and challenge and share the highs and lows with."
Morningside placed three players on the GPAC First Team: Daniel Brocaille, Caleb Dreckman and Alex Wilcoxson. Brocaille and Dreckman — the team's two seniors — played key roles in the Mustangs' success.
Brocaille averaged 15.4 points per game in 29 appearances this season and recently surpassed the 1,000-point mark in his career. His season high was 26 points in a Nov. 11 win over Peru State.
Dreckman averaged 16.4 points per game, second among Mustang scorers. The Le Mars, Iowa, native shot 54 percent from the floor and 42 percent from 3-point range while leading the team with 5.2 rebounds per game.
Wilcoxson paced the Mustangs offensively at 17.0 points per game. The Gretna, Neb., sophomore shot 53 percent from the field and logged 1,035 minutes this season. Wilcoxson recorded five games of 25 or more points.
Van Regenmorter also earned GPAC Second Team honors to go along with Freshman of the Year recognition. The Western Christian High School graduate averaged 12.4 points per game while shooting 58 percent from the field and making 57 3-pointers.
Van Regenmorter was also the only Mustang to earn GPAC Player of the Week honors this season, receiving the award in Week 7.
Grant and freshman Tyson Odvody were named Honorable Mention selections. Grant averaged 11.0 points per game and was a key presence defensively, grabbing 3.2 defensive rebounds per game while averaging just under one block per contest.
Odvody appeared in all 29 games during his freshman season. The 6-foot-8 Omaha native averaged 9.8 points per game.
Morningside will learn its national tournament assignment on Thursday.
