SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Morningside University men's golf team won two of three match play duals Monday and Tuesday at the Briar Cliff Match Play event at Green Valley Golf Course.
Morningside opened with a 3-2 win over Briar Cliff. Adam Watkin and Owen Bruins each earned 4&3 victories, while Darragh McGrath secured a 2&1 win. Watkin built a five-hole lead behind three birdies, and Bruins took an early two-hole advantage and never trailed.
Dordt edged Morningside 3-2 in the second round. Jose Martinez won his match 3&2, and Dylan Welford added a 2&1 victory.
The Mustangs closed the event with a 5-0 sweep of Mount Marty. Bruins recorded eight pars and two birdies in a 7&6 win, while McGrath also won 7&6 after building a six-hole lead through the opening six holes. Martinez, Welford and Watkin each secured 1-up wins that went the distance.
