MANHATTAN, Kan. — The Morningside University men's golf team placed fifth at the Midwest National Spring Invite, hosted by Kansas Wesleyan at Colbert Hills Golf Course.
The Mustangs finished with a three-round total of 901 (+37), edging Northwestern (Iowa) by one stroke and finishing ahead of Bellevue, Sterling and Southwestern (Kan.) in a 10-team field that featured multiple nationally ranked programs.
Dylan Welford paced Morningside with a tie for 11th at 223 (+7), opening with a 75 before shooting 73 and 75.
Darragh McGrath followed with a total of 225 (+9) to place 18th, carding rounds of 76, 76 and 73, with his best round coming Tuesday.
Ryan Cavanaugh tied for 19th at 226 (+10), highlighted by an even-par 72 in the second round to go along with rounds of 77 and 77.
Adam Watkin finished tied for 27th with a 230 (+14), posting rounds of 76, 76 and 78. Finn Coull rounded out the lineup in a tie for 30th at 231 (+15), improving to a 73 in the second round before closing with a 78.
Missouri Valley claimed the team title at 864 (E), followed by Hastings (+17) and host Kansas Wesleyan (+24).
