SIOUX CITY, IOWA – After a fast start by visiting the University of St. Mary in the first 30 minutes Sunday, March 28, Morningside College rallied back to draw even with the Spires in the second half.
Head coach Caitlin St. Marie's team found itself down 12-0 at the break at Tom Rosen Field, as USM tallied eight goals in the opening 15 minutes. Despite falling to 0-7 overall and 0-6 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference action, the Maroon answered the bell in the second half. Sophomore midfielder/attacker Lucy Preugschas (SO/Buffalo, Minn.) (Buffalo, Minn.), sophomore attacker Macy Hajek (SO/Tyndall, SD) (Tyndall, S.D.), and junior midfielder/attacker Ashley Wilcox (JR/Council Bluffs, Iowa) (Council Bluffs, Iowa) all posted goals. Freshman goalkeeper Natalie Hunt (FR/Pinedale, Wy.) (Pinedale, Wy.) added eight saves and two ground balls, and sophomore midfielder Lizeth Hilario (SO/Santa Ana, Calif.) (Santa Ana, Calif.), and sophomore midfielder Bella Burdette (SO/Aberdeen, S.D.) (Aberdeen, S.D.) tallied two ground balls each, too.
Mside began its weekend with a 21-1 loss at the hands of Missouri Valley College Saturday, March 27. Junior midfielder/attacker Ashlea Wolfe (JR/Brandon, SD) (Brandon, S.D.) notched the goal for the Mustangs.
In men's competition, head coach Jack O'Brien's squad dropped to 0-6 overall and in conference play. Sophomore midfielder/attacker Brendan Rorabacher (SO/Eagle, Idaho) (Eagle, Idaho) contributed the goal in an 18-1 loss to the University of St. Mary Sunday, winning the faceoff and blistering his way through the Spires' defense to find the back of the visiting net. He also tallied six total shots, three shots on goal, and two ground balls in the matinee.
The Mustangs were blanked by MVC 18-0 Saturday. Rorabacher tallied four shots, two shots on goal, and five ground balls. Freshman goalkeeper Austin Streeter (FR/Sioux City, Iowa) (Sioux City, Iowa) finished with 18 saves, a new personal single-match career-high, and five ground balls.
Morningside's men take to the road Saturday, April 3, for a Missouri Baptist University match. The match time is 1 p.m. at Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex in St. Louis, Mo.
