ORANGE CITY, IOWA – Senior midfielder Moritz Lusch (Bielefield, Germany) and sophomore midfielder Victor Beker (Amsterdam, Netherlands) combined for eight totals, six of which were on goal, to guide Morningside University Saturday, Nov. 6.
One of Lusch's three on frame volleys found the back of the Northwestern College net off a free kick in the first half, tying the 2021 Great Plains Athletic Conference semifinal round clash at 1-1. Head coach Tom Maxon's squad had opportunities to forge a lead on the Northwestern College Soccer Complex scoreboard. Still, NWC netminder Ezekiel Foltz and junior Bjarne Huth (Bad Vilbel, Germany), his counterpart, kept things even until the latter stages of the second stanza. A scramble in front of the Mustangs goal was tucked into the left corner in the 69th minute for the eventual decider of a 2-1 final.
Huth registered five saves for his fifth successive multiple-save outing. Morningside wrapped up their 2021 season with a 12-7 record, marking a fourth straight year of 10-or-more victories.
