Men's soccer picks up two weekly honors
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – For the first time this season, the Morningside men’s soccer team swept the GPAC Player of the Week honors, as Levi Von Hagen and Timon Koerber picked up honors this week.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – For the first time this season, the Morningside men's soccer team swept the GPAC Player of the Week honors, as Levi Von Hagen and Timon Koerber picked up honors this week.
Von Hagen, a junior from Detmold, Germany, earned this week's offensive honors in two GPAC playoff games. Against Hastings, Von Hagen scored the game winner, which also happened to be the only goal of the match. Against Brair Cliff in the semifinals, he had an assists in a 2-2 game that was won by the Mustangs in a shootout.
Koerber, a sophomore from Gruenwald, Germany, recorded 10 saves over two matches, and turned away two Chargers shots in the shootout to help the Mustangs make the GPAC Championship. He recorded a clean sheet against Hastings and had five saves in a 2-2 draw with Briar Cliff.
Morningside takes on Northwestern Thursday night for a spot in the NAIA National Tournament. The winner takes the second bid for the GPAC as regular season champion Briar Cliff claimed an automatic bid by winning the conference regular season title. The match between the Mustangs and Red Raiders is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Orange City.
