SIOUX CITY, Iowa — A dominant second-half performance lifted Morningside to a 4-0 win over Waldorf in Great Plains Athletic Conference men's soccer action Wednesday at Elwood Olsen Stadium.
"We did what we were supposed to do," assistant coach Jonas Markfoged said. "The guys showed desire in the second half. The second group finished a little bit better, and we were a little more dominant in the second half."
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Mustangs (8-6-2, 4-2-2 GPAC) erupted for four goals in the second half — all within 30 minutes of play. Javier Ruchelli delivered the breakthrough in the 48th minute, finishing a setup from Jordan Bickel, then added his second less than a minute later off assists from Milan Halasz and Tassilo Koerner.
Ruchelli completed his hat trick in the 77th minute, converting a pass from Koerner, while Bickel capped the scoring just 90 seconds later with help from Kenan Kodal.
The Mustangs outshot the Warriors 45-3 and earning 12 corner kicks to Waldorf's two. Goalkeepers Tim Teschner and Timon Koerber combined for Morningside's seventh shutout of the season as the defense held Waldorf without a shot on goal.
