SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Battling reigning Great Plains Athletic Conference runner-up Concordia University and National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II foe Augustana University of South Dakota Saturday and Sunday, March 26 and 27, Morningside University pushed both opponents on its home courts.
Head coach Alex Struck's Mustangs, despite dipping to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the league, took the Bulldogs to the final singles match at Mason Family Tennis Complex, dropping a 4-3 thriller. The following evening at First Serve Tennis Center in South Sioux City, Neb., Mside picked up a singles win at number three and gave the Vikings all they could handle at No. 3 doubles and No. 4 singles in a 6-1 defeat.
Freshman Mikhil Raja (Belvedere Harare, Zimbabwe) was the victor for Morningside Sunday. He also joined fellow first-year student-athletes Eduard Salvana (Calella, Spain) and Alexander Castillo (Santiago, Chile) in singles decisions against Concordia.
Morningside is back in action Saturday, April 2, in Great Plains Athletic Conference play versus Midland University. First serve is 2 p.m. at Mason Family Tennis Complex.
