Spring Break Starts with 4-3 Mustang Men's Tennis Win

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Men's Tennis began its spring break trip with a win over the no. 22 Tennessee Southern Firehawks, 4-3.
The Firehawks took the doubles point, but Santiago Minetti and Gabriel Whiston kept the pressure on, winning the no. 2 doubles match 6-3, turning all eyes to the no. 1 match, which got away from Marcos Menendez Hervella and Alexis Diaz, 7-5.
With ground to make up in singles play, the Mustangs got to work, as Mathys Arnold won a 6-1, 6-3 match in the no. 3 position. Menendez Hervella followed, winning a 10-5 super tiebreaker after splitting sets of 6-4 and 1-6. Minetti picked up a 7-5, 6-3 victory at no. 4 singles, putting Morningside on the verge of clinching.
Diaz would be the Mustang to win the match, with all eyes turning to the no. 2 pairing ad the Firehawks tied the score 3-3. The senior kept his cool, winning the match 7-6 with a 7-3 tiebreaker, 4-3, with a 10-8 super tiebreaker.
Morningside is back on the courts tomorrow, playing no. 16 Huntington in the morning and Bethel in the afternoon.
