Mustangs swept in Saturday triangular
LA CROSSE, WIS. – A quick two-and-a-half hour drive from last night’s matches, the Mustangs were in La Crosse, Wis. today for another men’s volleyball triangular, hosted by Viterbo University. Morningside started the day early, losing a 3-0 match to the host V-Hawks before dropping a 3-1 match to Lakeland University’s Muskies.

LA CROSSE, WIS. – A quick two-and-a-half hour drive from last night's matches, the Mustangs were in La Crosse, Wis. today for another men's volleyball triangular, hosted by Viterbo University. Morningside started the day early, losing a 3-0 match to the host V-Hawks before dropping a 3-1 match to Lakeland University's Muskies.
The Mustangs totaled 2.5 blocks and 34 digs against Viterbo, striking for 35 kills in the match.
Natan Alves had 10 kills to lead the way, with Dylan Hamil terminating nine points and Kahakai Kahoiwai hammering eight. Jacob DePauw had two kills and 28 assists in the match.
Kahoiwai and Owen Anderson both tallied 10 digs, with Hamil next in line with five.
Hamil and Jesse Lowe each had two blocks, via the block assist.
Morningside's final match of the weekend against Lakeland saw a stronger showing from the Mustangs, with losses in sets one, two, and four coming by fewer than 10 points. Combined. Morningside's set three win was by 11 points.
The Mustangs upped their numbers to six total blocks and 40 digs, while knocking down 39 kills.
Hamil led Morningside's attack in the last match, recording 16 kills. Alves followed with 10 and Kahoiwai had nine terminations. DePauw added 34 assists to his collection for the weekend.
Anderson led the way on defense, with 11 digs. DePauw had 10, Hamil collected eight, and Alves scooped seven. Tharen Cox led the block, with four. Lowe had a block assist and a solo block, and DePauw had two block assists.
Morningside's home and Great Plains Athletic Conference opener comes on Wednesday when Ottawa University comes to Allee Gym for a 7 p.m. contest.
