Mustangs fall as season crosses halfway point

The Mustangs showed a lot of heart late in the match, when down two sets, they fought back against the Jimmies. The two teams went stride for stride, with neither team gaining more than a three point lead throughout the set. Morningside closed the gap late, tying the set at 22, when the host team went on a three-point run to take the set and the match.
Kahakai Kahoiwai led the Mustangs' attack with nine kills. Natan Alves tallied five, and Dylan Hamil and Tharen Cox each had four. Cox hit at a .375 percentage, only getting eight attempts in the match. Jacob DePauw also totaled 20 assists in the match.
Defensive leaders emerged in Morningside's back row, as Owen Anderson had 11 digs. DePauw tallied seven, Alves had six, and Kahoiwai totaled five in the match.
The Mustangs' two team blocks came via single block assists for DePauw, Kahoiwai, Alves, and Jesse Lowe.
Morningside travels to Ottawa University on Thursday for a 7 p.m. contest, marking the beginning of the second round of Great Plains Athletic Conference play. The Mustangs went 3-2 against conference opponents the first time through.
