Mustangs split matches at Kansas Wesleyan Saturday afternoon
SALINA, Kan. – Morningside carried the momentum of the Friday sweeps into Saturday, defeating St. Ambrose in straight sets before falling in five to Kansas Wesleyan.

SALINA, Kan. – Morningside carried the momentum of the Friday sweeps into Saturday, defeating St. Ambrose in straight sets before falling in five to Kansas Wesleyan.
Morningside defeated the Bees 25-12, 25-18, 25-20. The Mustangs hit over .400 in the win, totaling 44 kills on 82 attacks, committing just 11 errors. Morningside recorded 13 or more kills in each set, while St. Ambrose only reached double digits in a set once.
Three Mustangs recorded double digit kills, led by Natan Alves with 17 kills at a .560 hitting percentage. Isaiah Baynes added 11 kills and Jacob Baynes 10. Isaiah Baynes also had nine digs, tying Owen Anderson for the team high. Jacob DePauw recorded 36 assists.
Morningside fell behind two sets to none to Kansas Wesleyan in the final game of the weekend, but rallied to force a fifth set. Ultimately, it was the Coyotes who came away with the 26-24, 25-19, 18-25, 20-25, 15-11 win.
Morningside almost completed the reverse sweep, but six errors paired with six kills in the fifth set wasn't enough. Isaiah Baynes had a double-double in game two, recording 23 kills and 16 digs. Tharen Cox added 14 kills and Jacob Baynes 13 kills and eight digs. Owen Anderson had a team-high 18 digs and Jacob DePauw totaled 48 assists and three service aces.
The Mustangs (11-9, 3-0) return to conference play at home Thursday against No. 9 Jamestown.
