SALINA, Kan. — It didn't take long for the Morningside men's volleyball team to find its rhythm Friday.
Behind one of its most efficient offensive performances of the season, the Mustangs hit .311 as a team and rolled to a straight-sets sweep of Kansas Wesleyan, 25-13, 25-23, 25-12, inside Mabee Arena.
Morningside's balance was evident from the start, finishing with 40 kills on just 90 swings while committing only 12 errors. The result was a clean, in-system match where the Mustangs consistently put pressure on the Coyotes' defense and limited extended rallies.
Natan Alves led the way offensively, totaling nine kills on 18 swings while hitting an efficient .444. Edoardo Pirazzo matched that efficiency at .444 as well, adding five kills, while Ferdinando Vinti chipped in nine kills and a .375 mark to give Morningside multiple high-percentage options across the front row.
That offensive success was fueled by steady distribution, particularly from Malu Wilcox, who finished with a team-high 12 assists, while Lucca Stoelinga added nine assists and helped keep the Mustangs in rhythm throughout the match.
Set 1 set the tone early. Morningside hit .400 in the opening frame, using a 10-5 run to create separation before closing it out comfortably at 25-13.
The second set proved to be the only real push from Kansas Wesleyan, as the Coyotes battled back late to trim the deficit to one. But the Mustangs responded behind timely swings from Pirazzo and Vinti, closing out a 25-23 win to take full control of the match.
Morningside slammed the door in the third. The Mustangs hit .409 in the final set, jumping out to an early lead and never letting Kansas Wesleyan find a rhythm, finishing off the sweep with a dominant 25-12 decision.
Defensively, the Mustangs backed up their offense with 53 digs and limited Kansas Wesleyan to a .041 hitting percentage, a reflection of consistent pressure at the net and in the back row.
