Morningside earns first dual win of 2022-23 season

The Mustangs established that their no. 12 ranking in the most recent National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics coaches poll was not an error, picking up strong decisions up and down the lineup. Concordia was receiving votes in the poll.
Morningside's evening started off well, with Evan Shell collecting a major decision, 15-4, at the 125 weight class.
At 133, Ben Schmitz won a 12-2 major decision, defeating his opponent 12-2.
Taylor Vasquez turned up the heat at 141, pinning his Concordia counterpart in 2:12.
John Diener earned a fall at 157 pounds in 2:53, building Morningside's lead in the dual to 20-3.
At the 165 and 175-pound weight classes, Zander Ernst and Jackson Chapin each recorded decisions, 6-1 and 11-5, respectively.
Samuel Moore collected an 11-4 decision at 184 pounds, and Hunter DeJong concluded the match at heavyweight, pinning his opponent in 3:49.
Morningside next competes in the Buena Vista University Open in Storm Lake, Iowa on Dec. 3.
