Ernst’s big weekend earns GPAC Wrestler of the Week honors

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Morningside junior Zander Ernst on Wednesday was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Men's Wrestler of the Week.

Ernst, the No. 4 nationally ranked wrestler in NAIA at 165 pounds, earned two technical fall wins at the Spire Duals in Leavenworth, Kansas, on Saturday.

In the 30-18 win against No. 20 Friends, Ernst recorded a 19-3 tech fall in 6 minutes, 32 seconds. He scored 11 points during the third period in that match.

Then, in a 32-12 Mustangs victory over Avila, the Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School grad beat his opponent 22-4 in a tech fall that lasted 5:09. Ernst collected 15 total points during the second period, all from takedowns.

Ernst is 9-0 this season in matches.
