Mustangs gain votes in preseason poll

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — With Thanksgiving around the corner, the Morningside softball team has plenty to be thankful for — including a little national recognition.

The Mustangs learned Wednesday they received votes in the NAIA preseason national poll released by the national office in Kansas City, Missouri.

Morningside collected nine votes, just one of two Great Plains Athletic Conference programs recognized in the poll.

Coming off a 35-win season that included a trip to the NAIA Opening Round after advancing to the GPAC Championship Series, the Mustangs also went 9-1 at Jensen Softball Complex — a home-field feast they'll look to repeat this spring.

Morningside opens its 2026 campaign Feb. 6 at the Dordt Dome Tournament.
