GULF SHORES, Ala. —- On Friday, the Morningside softball team scored a combined 17 runs in a victory to Central Methodist and a loss to Tennessee Southern.
During the five-inning 12-0 win against the Eagles, Morningside (7-9) scored 10 first-inning runs. It sent 15 batters to the plate and capitalized on timely hitting and defensive miscues.
Adeline Fliege and Lillian Harris each delivered RBI singles, while Bralen Biddlecome and Amber Dougherty also drove in runs during the rally.
The Mustangs took advantage of two Baker errors and aggressive baserunning, highlighted by Jenna Skradski stealing home. By the time the inning ended, Morningside had built a commanding 10-0 lead.
Jalyn Noelle also had an RBI single that made it an 11-0 lead. She had two RBIs in the win.
Adeline Fliege pitched all five innings, allowing five hits and didn't walk an Eagle hitter. She struck out two.
In Game 1 against the Firehawks, the Mustangs lost 5-4.
The Mustangs scored twice in the first inning, with a Paige Schuster RBI triple and then Schuster stole home on a double steal.
During the second inning, Jenna Skradski hit a solo home run.
