Mustangs Sweep Flames in GPAC Softball Doubleheader
OMAHA, Neb. – Morningside’s bats went out of March like a lion as the Mustangs erupted for 19 runs and 26 hits in today’s Great Plains Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at College of Saint Mary. Morningside picked up a 10-0 five-inning victory in the day’s opener before winning the finale 9-0 in six innings.

OMAHA, Neb. – Morningside's bats went out of March like a lion as the Mustangs erupted for 19 runs and 26 hits in today's Great Plains Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at College of Saint Mary. Morningside picked up a 10-0 five-inning victory in the day's opener before winning the finale 9-0 in six innings.
The Mustangs were quick to get on the board in the opener, bringing three runs across the plate as Mackenzi Harrel drove a single to left to score Amber Dougherty, Josie Hernandez put a ball in play on the left side of the infield to score Jalyn Noelle, and Lainie Keller hit a ball to short to score Harrel.
Noelle added on in the second inning, scoring Emma Barwick. Jenna Skradski scored Adeline Fliege in the third before a Barwick sacrifice fly scored Hernandez. Lillian Harris drove in three runs with a double in the fourth inning, scoring Keller, Harrel, and Noelle. Barwick rounded out the scoring in the fifth inning, launching a solo home run to left field.
Fliege threw a two-hitter as she collected the complete game win, walking two and striking out three others in the process.
Morgan Secora picked up the win in game two, going five innings with four hits and as many strikeouts. Jordan Skradski finished the game for Morningside, giving up a hit and striking out one batter.
The Mustangs started the second game at the plate with another crooked number, as Harrel scored Dougherty on a double, Fliege singled to score Harrel, and Secora singled to score Fliege.
Two runs followed in the second, as Dougherty drove in Barwick and Noelle brought Dougherty across.
Barwick doubled in the fourth inning to score Jenna Skradski before coming around to score on a Harrel single. Barwick would get Morningside across the eight-run advantage threshold in the sixth inning with a two-run blast to left, scoring Jenna Skradski in the process.
The Mustangs return home on Wednesday afternoon when they play host to Northwestern beginning at 3 p.m.
