Offensive shootout locks up second straight 20-win GPAC slate

Battling past Midland University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference regular-season finale that featured 66 made field goals, 19 successfully converted three-point baskets, and 162 points, head coach Jamie Sale's Mustangs concluded a second straight 20-or-more win conference campaign with a rousing 90-72 decision on the home floor of Allee Gymnasium inside Rosen-Verdoorn Sports Center. Despite the comfortable margin of victory, Mside did find itself down 6-4 early on before the string as mentioned earlier of 21 straight points gave them a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Guard Sierra Mitchell (Pleasant Hill, Iowa) and forward Taylor Rodenburgh (Hawarden, Iowa) stepped to the forefront, each playing their final home regular-season contest. Mitchell added 32 points, six assists, three rebounds, and two steals to an already-glowing career line. Rodenburgh double-doubled the Warriors with 21 points and 11 boards while dishing out two assists, picking up a steal, and blocking a shot.
Sophomore post player Chloe Lofstrom (Armstrong, Iowa) almost added a second home team double-double. She finished with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Morningside (25-4) opens 2022 GPAC Championships action Wednesday, Feb. 23. The tourney's top seed hosts eighth-seeded Hastings College in a 6 p.m. start.
