Fourth quarter comeback sinks Mustangs
MITCHELL, S.D. – Morningside battled to an 11-point lead going into the fourth quarter against the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in the Corn Palace in Mitchell, but it was the Tigers who ran away with the fourth quarter and the game, defeating Morningside 70-65.
MITCHELL, S.D. – Morningside battled to an 11-point lead going into the fourth quarter against the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in the Corn Palace in Mitchell, but it was the Tigers who ran away with the fourth quarter and the game, defeating Morningside 70-65.
After trailing by three heading into the second quarter, Morningside outscored Dakota Wesleyan 38-24 in the middle two quarters to lead 55-44 entering the final quarter of action.
The Tigers upped the defense in the fourth quarter to hold Morningside to 10 points, all scored by Alexis Spier. Spier tallied 27 points, matching a season high for points scored. She added seven rebounds.
Lily Vollertsen added 13 points and Chloe Lofstrom 11 points for the Mustangs. Both players matched Spier's seven rebound total for the game. Jordyn Carr added six assists in the game.
The Mustangs return home to play their first home game in over a month Saturday against Doane.
