Mustangs sidestep Lancers 84-69
YANKTON, S.D. – The Mustangs got back on the right track thanks to an 84-69 victory over Mount Marty in women’s basketball this afternoon, improving their conference record to 9-7 to sit in a three-way race for the no. 5 spot in the Great Plains Athletic Conference standings with six games left.

After finishing the first quarter with a 16-16 tie, the Mustangs built a six point lead as they completed the first half, heading into the intermission with a 39-33 lead. Morningside put its foot down as it came out of the locker room, adding 10 points to the differential by the end of the period and coasting to the conclusion of the contest with an 84-69 final.
Lily Vollertsen was menacing to the Lancer defense as she went 10-for-15 from the floor for 24 points. Alexis Spier was 6-for-8 for 18 points including four three-pointers, while Chloe Lofstrom also went 6-for-8 from the floor with 13 points. As a team the Mustangs shot 55.2 percent with a 40 percent mark from beyond the three-point line. They also shot 80 percent from the free throw line, going 12-for-15.
Lofstrom led the Mustangs in rebounds, collecting four offensive and four defensive boards. Jordyn Carr had five total rebounds and Spier had three.
Morningside prepares for arguably its toughest contest of the season, as the Mustangs head to no. 1 Dordt on Wednesday night.
