Mustang Women Shock the Chargers in Crosstown Clash

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Morningside women's basketball team handed Briar Cliff its third conference loss of the season tonight when the Mustangs invaded the Newman Flanagan Center, upsetting the Chargers 85-73.
Morningside took its lead for good after about 1:30 of play, when Lily Vollertsen knocked down a three-pointer to give the Mustangs a 5-3 advantage. Tonja Heirigs followed with her own three, and Morningside didn't look back from there.
Vollertsen ended the night as the game's leading scorer, with 37 points in the crosstown tilt. Ali Albrecht was next for the Mustangs with 12 points. Jaeden Webb dished five assists, Sam Ehlers had four, and Kinsey Hall and Clancy Brown each had three.
It was Vollertsen that led the Mustangs on the boards, too, grabbing 10 rebounds, with eight on defense. Webb had eight defensive boards, too, with nine on the night. Hall, Ehlers, Annie Harms, and Dani Peterson each ended the night with four rebounds.
Morningside heads back to Allee Gym, where it will host Doane on Saturday at 2 p.m.
