Vollertsen scores 29 in Mustangs loss to Thomas

Senior Lily Vollertsen carried the Mustangs early, scoring 20 of her game-high 29 points in the first half. Most of that production came during a 27-9 run that erased an early deficit and helped Morningside climb back into the game. The Mustangs took a 31-30 lead into halftime.
Vollertsen also led Morningside (9-4) on the glass with eight rebounds, continuing a strong stretch of play on both ends of the floor.
Morningside stayed within striking distance by getting to the free-throw line, finishing 16-for-19 at the stripe.
Clancy Brown added nine points and dished out a team-high four assists, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. Annie Harms chipped in eight points, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers.
Morningside will look to bounce back and close out both its Florida trip and the fall semester at 1 p.m. Wednesday in a true road game against Keiser.
