Mustangs Unable to Keep no. 1 Dordt at Bay
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Morningside knew it was going to have to come out of the gate strong in Great Plains Athletic Conference women’s basketball action today, as the no. 1 Dordt Defenders came to the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center. The Mustangs did just that, trailing by just two midway through the opening quarter, but the nation’s top team attacked from all angles, setting the Mustangs aside 97-62.

It was Dordt's bench that bit Morningside, as the Mustangs defense held the first-stringers to just 50 points, while the Defender bench tacked on another 47.
Lily Vollertsen led Morningside's offensive efforts, with 18 points. Sam Ehlers and Clancy Brown each had 10, while Kinsey Hall had eight points. Hall and Ehlers led on the offensive boards with three, while Brown and Vollertsen each had two.
Ehlers had four defensive boards, followed by Ella Wragge and Vollertsen, with three each. Brown had a game-leading eight steals.
Morningside will hope to gain some traction in a pair of road games, traveling to no. 10 Concordia on Saturday before heading to a must-win game against Northwestern on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
