Morningside turns in solid regular-season finale

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – Sophomore Jakob McBride (Huron, S.D.) and junior Kaitlin Hofmeister (South Sioux City, Neb.) each turned in top 20 marks, guiding Morningside University Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 5 and 6.

Competing in the multi-divisional Coe College Kohawk Invitational, head coach Steve Gonshorowski's women's squad wound up ninth (7369). The Mustangs men's side rolled a 7498 to place 11^th.

McBride's 1023, good for 17^th, was fueled by three 200-plus Baker games including a 244. Hofmeister, also placing 17^th, carried a 1002. She also had three 200-plus Baker efforts with a single-game best 234.

Looking further into the individual results, the men put sophomore Braeden Johnson (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa) and freshman Nick Philthilath (Sioux Falls, S.D.) in the first 40. Johnson ended 21^st, just eight pins in back of McBride. Philthilath placed 39^th (953). The women had one more in similar terrirtory. Freshman Rachel Spier (Sioux Falls, S.D.) took 37th (942).

Mside moves into postseason play Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26 and 27, at the NAIA Unaffiliated Conference Championships in Fremont, Neb.
